Motobecane Mixte Vintage Sport
A friend of us was turning 30, and really wanted a bike to get around town, as corona made things difficult. Luckily, this Motobecane turned up on Finn.no right in time.
We biked out to Smestad to meet up with the seller, who could tell us that his wife had bought it in Lyon in 1979, and biked around on it while she was studying. Afterwards she brought the bike to Norway, and the bike ended up in various lofts and basements over the years, until they decided to pass it on to us.
All in all, the bike was in pretty good condition, with beautiful fenders and some really good looking parts, like the friction shifters and the handlebars.
The drivetrain seemed good, so I didn't bother taking that off, except the freewheel which was completely bogged down and barely moved. Upgraded to a brand new Sunrace freewheel, with slightly better range, to make it easier to climb the hills of Oslo™️.
The bike originally came with a rear rack, but we opted for a new Wald 1372 front basket, since it's easier to throw things into it than having to use bags and whatnot for the rear rack.
Other than that, I replaced the chain and the housing and installed a kickstand and a nice Velo Orange bell.
